Aswini Kumar Kar

Having graduated in Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the S.C.B. Dental College & Hospital, Cuttack, Odisha (Only Government Dental College in Odisha) in 2000, Aswini Kumar Kar went on to obtain Master in Dental Surgery (MDS) in Prosthodontics in 2007 from All India Institute of Dental Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, premier institute of India & South-east Asia. He has taught at three of the dental colleges in India and is Professor since 2016 at Department of Prosthodontics and got promoted to Principal of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences, KIIT Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India since September 2021.

He is into active academics for Undergraduates, Postgraduates, Training faculty since last 18 years and  assigned as Ph.D. guide in his working university since 2020. His research exploration inclusive of collaborative approach with School of Medicine, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Applied Sciences, School of Biotechnology of KIIT University to name a few. He has visions for national and international universities of repute research collaborations and widening the scope for Prosthodontic knowledge exchange.

Though he has numerous local and national active involvement as presenter, chairing a session faculty or student presentations, workshop conductor, felicitator etc, in 2020 during Covid Pandemic Prof Aswini was the key in coordinating and organizing 3 online events viz, 1.Inter-university Seminars participated by 5 National universities (AIIMS, MAIDS,GDC Jaipur, KIDS, SRMC) and University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, 2. KIDS ORIENT (Online Orientation for 1st yr PG students in 3 modules) for 3 different days participated by students from all over India, 3. International Webinar by Prof Peter Owen. He was invited guest speaker for SRMC University, Chennai in 2021. And two guest speakers at KIIT University for 1st International Online Conference on Emerging Smart Materials in Applied Chemistry(ESMAC-2020) & International Conference on Sustainable Water Resources (SWR -2021). In Apr 2021, Prof Maria Menini was the Guest Speaker for the International live webinar “Full-arch immediate loading” conducted by Department of Prosthodontics, Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences. In 2022, Dr Limor Avivi-Arber accepted graciously to be the Guest Speaker (Online mode) for the International Impla-Integrate Hybrid conference organized at Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences He had coordinated Faculty Development Programmes for School of Dentistry, KIIT University several times. He was the only Guest Contributor from India in Guest Book of Academy for Dental Training Karlsruhe, Germany at 100th Anniversary. Prof Aswini is a past President, EC member, CDE Convener of the Indian Prosthodontic Society, Odisha State Branch since inception of the branch in 2014, is a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard   Academy, Life Member of Indian Dental Association, Indian Prosthodontic Society, Member ISMR and many more.

In 2020-2021, Dr Aswini encouraged fellowmates from India namely Dr Veena Jain, Dr Gunjan Pruthi, Dr Kasim, Dr Shruti, Dr Sonali to name a few to be Constituted member of ICP. As Prof Aswini belongs to India and till date there is very less representation at ICP, he is very much hopeful of immense benefit to the ICP board in this regard and with numerous collaborations with India, he is sure it will fulfill the ICP’s mission of international promotion of speciality of Prosthodontics to a greater extent.
